Hawaiians named the monk seal “dog that runs in rough water,” and this one has traded the rough water for warm sand. A full-color island scene rests inside a ringed circle on the chest. Green ridges rise behind a turquoise break, waves roll onto golden sand, and a young monk seal settles in with hibiscus and plumeria blooming at the water’s edge.
Monk seals haul out on Hawaii’s beaches to rest, and that nap on the sand is normal, healthy behavior. Fewer than 1,600 of them remain in the world, and every one of them belongs to Hawaii alone. This design puts the state mammal of Hawaii on your shoulders and keeps it in the conversation.
The garment
Printed on Comfort Colors 1717, a garment-dyed heavyweight ring-spun cotton. It softens with every wash and holds its color season after season. Relaxed fit with a broken-in feel from day one.
