Humuhumu State Fish Tee

Meet the humuhumunukunukuapuaʻa.
Say it out loud. Hoo-moo-hoo-moo-noo-koo-noo-koo-ah-poo-ah-ah. The name runs longer than the fish, and it describes a triggerfish with a snout like a pig. Bother one and it backs up the name with a grunt.
Hawaii made this reef triggerfish its official state fish, and one look explains the vote. This design gives it the full portrait inside a ringed circle scene. Sunbeams pour through the shallows, the humuhumu cruises over living coral in gold, black, white, and electric blue, and hibiscus and plumeria frame the reef.
When trouble comes, a humuhumu wedges itself into a coral crevice and locks its trigger spine so nothing can pull it out. Snorkelers spot them in the first ten feet of water, which makes this the fish most visitors meet before any other.
